Being a Buddhist monk in today’s world definitely has its challenges. Being a western Buddhist monk living in the States adds an interesting flair to that ancient equation. Since receiving vows from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, I have found much beauty in the life of simplicity as prescribed for the ordained by Lord Buddha over 2,500 years ago.

So why create this blog? Are monks even allowed the use of technology? The world have definitely changed faces since the time of Lord Buddha, but the vinaya continues to evolve as a living tradition with the society in which the vows are practiced, never becoming static. I thought I might utilize modern communication and offer a glimpse into the life of western Buddhist monastics.

When I was initially contemplating pursuing vows, I found solace in reading the blogs of ordained monks and nuns, learning from the aspects of their daily lives they were willing to share. Now it’s my turn to return the favor in support of the Sangha to come.
